The courtyard house was fundamentally generated employing the Tartan Grid. The basic premise of this method is to begin by laying out lines with a specified distance between each in both the vertical and horizontal direction. Once this is done the designer organizes the plan of a building operating within this system. This however, does not represent the end all of this method, it is instead a single step in an iterative process. Therefore, the designer may refine the grid multiple times each time distilling down a more and more successful version of the original grid.
